Mysore & Guided Half Primary Ashtanga Fri, 24 Jan 2020 21:30:33 +0000 Rachel Dyer

Zach & I have seen our yoga practice grow so much since beginning our Ashtanga Yoga journey. We have traveled to other cities and even Mysore India to learn from the masters. We love this practice so much that we have put a “Mysore Club” with the daily weekday practice offering on the schedule at bliss. I hope you will experience what we have with the Ashtanga style of yoga.

About The “Morgantown Mysore Club”

In the “Morgantown Mysore Club” – named after Mysore, India, the city in South India where Ashtanga Yoga originates – we offer two traditional styles of Ashtanga Yoga classes. We offer guided classes, where the teacher guides you and all students in the class together, and Mysore-style, a self-paced class wherein students receive individualized instruction in a group setting.

Mysore – Starting Monday, March 16

Mysore: Named for the city in South India, Mysore-style is a self-paced yoga class wherein students receive individualized instruction in a group setting. It is the most intimate and personal way of practicing yoga. Students receive more instruction and attention in the beginning, then eventually receive assists and adjustments only when needed. This class is held every Monday – Thursday, 5 a.m. – 7 a.m. Come in anytime during that time period, as long as you can complete your practice by 7 a.m. No experience with yoga necessary. First-timers, please allow 25 minutes. Please do your best to come to class at least three times per week in your first month.

Guided Half Primary – Starting Monday, March 20

Guided Half Primary: In this yoga class, the instructor guides you and all students together up through navasana in the Primary Series, followed by back bends and closing postures. Varying options for many postures are offered, making this class accessible to all levels. This class will be held on Fridays 5:30 a.m. – 6:45 a.m.

Note: There will be no classes held on New Moon and Full Moon days. Check the BlissBlissBliss class calendar to confirm when there is no class due to a moon day. Either Zach or Rachel teach on a daily basis, with Rachel teaching the majority of classes.

We Also Teach Ashtanga Yoga Monday’s at 5:30PM:
Ashtanga is generally thought of as structured sets of postures practiced vinyasa-style. The method coordinates movement with breath and steady gazing with the eyes. There are three groups of Ashtanga Yoga movement sequences: the Primary Series, which is also known as “yoga therapy” and cleanses the physical body; the Intermediate Series, the purpose of which is cleansing of the nervous system; and Advanced Series A – D, which develop strength and grace. This one-hour led/guided class is a modified Half-Primary: we begin with sun salutations followed by the standing postures, then move on to the Primary Series, back bending, and closing postures. This class is conducted in the traditional Sanskrit count. Appropriate for all levels.

Stay Tuned For Our Book Discussion:Every month or month and a half, depending on the book we’re reading, we meet for approximately an hour and a half to discuss a book relating to the subject of yoga. Check the BlissBlissBliss Facebook page to see which book we’re reading, and check the BlissBlissBliss calendar for the Book Discussion date and time.

]]> Do You Mean “This Body” Can DO Yoga? Tue, 21 Jan 2020 16:25:53 +0000 By Tonya Madia

Have you looked at pictures of people doing yoga and wonder if you can too? Has life circumstances put you in a place where you want to get into yoga?

Our bodies are ever changing and evolving. Circumstances related to acute or chronic illness, injury, health conditions, or the process of aging create for us a body that may feel quite new and different than the body we were once used to inhabiting.

Adapting to and accepting this new body is crucial to well-being. The “New Body” yoga class is purposefully designed for anyone who has felt an impact on their yoga practice, after surgery, illness or birthdays.

This 60-minute class is held Mondays at Noon and will focus on modifications geared specifically to learn the capabilities of your new body. Breathing and guided meditation techniques are also incorporated to promote molecular changes which result in beneficial changes to mental and physical health and lead ultimately, to an even NEWER body, one that is freer from the pain and limitations.

Yoga: Ancient Technology – Modern Twists Thu, 02 Jan 2020 19:14:01 +0000 Oh Yoga! We love it at Bliss. One of the things that we are happily KNOWN for in our commUNITY is the variety of yoga styles we have at bliss. We encourage students to take as many of our classes as possible. Explore styles and teachers. Students often call in wanting to know more about yoga. Here is some information about yoga and our class approach.

You will probably find that no matter which class you come to, it will be “Just what you needed”

Every class can be considered beginner friendly (if you follow the golden rule to “listen to your body”!). Likewise, the beginner level and gentle classes are just as effective for the experienced yogi. We encourage you to come to ALL classes that fit your schedule. Each teacher offers you a unique experience and your practice gets better the more yoga that you do.

Our classes are walk in friendly. You can purchase a walk in class or class package or yoga membership before or after class. Membership packages are designed for that month’s use. Packages are good for 1 year. Pass sharing is NOT possible.

Vinyasa styles (can be a faster flow between poses):

Some classes will flow faster than others and typically have the word vinyasa in the title. Ashtanga tends to have a faster pace but the poses never change and you can really chart your progress in technical ability with this class. Classes with the word flow in the title can also means that a traditional series like the sun salute is built into the class but slower aspects are also part of the class. In general all Vinyasa or flow classes are going to have folds, twists, along with standing and seated postures.

  • Good Morning Vinyasa: Thursday at 9:30am
  • Hot Vinyasa Yoga: Saturday / Sunday at 9AMm and Thursdays at 5:30PM
  • Ashtanga: Monday at 5:30PM
  • Mindful Movement: Some Saturdays at 11AM, Tuesdays at 5:30PM
  • Yoga Lunch Express: Tuesday and Thursday and Friday at 12PM
  • Evening Yoga: Tuesdays at 6PM
  • Bliss Flow: Fridays at 9AM

Gentle styles (generally a slower flow or longer holds):

Some classes will have you hold poses longer. When the title has the word “gentle” in it, you know that it is designed to go slower and will be easier on the body parts that typically have had a lot of wear and tear (knees, ankles, wrists). Some classes like Chakra Yoga or Bliss Flow will have more chanting built in to the class. When the word Beginners in the class, know that the focus is on using every day terminology (vs. sanscrit names) for poses. Getting the student prepared for any class is the focus. Come to class, try it out or read the class description before attending.

  • Gentle Yoga: Monday at 9AM, Tuesday at 9:30AM
  • Chakra Yoga: Wednesday at 9AM
  • Bliss Flow: Friday at 9:30AM
  • Yoga for Beginners: Wednesday at 6:30PM

Pregnancy and Post Pregnancy:
Not every pose is going to feel good when pregnant or postpartum. Some poses will support you all the way through labor, delivery and recovery.

  • Bliss Mama Prenatal Yoga Tuesday at 9:30AM and Thursdays at 6PM
  • Bliss Mama & Baby Yoga – Once a month. Please check online calendar.

SLOW WAY Down Styles:
The slowest paced classes are yin and restorative yoga. These classes use bolsters, pillows, blankets and props. Most all the poses are on the floor and poses can be challenging as the require total mindfulness and conscious relaxation. Something that can be hard for most humans these days.

  • Yin to Restore Monday at 6:30PM, Wednesday at 12PM, Some Saturdays at 11AM
  • Restorative Yoga: Sunday at 3:30PM
  • Candle Light Yin: Select Sundays following sunset times. Check online

Hot Classes

The hot classes use full spectrum infrared heat (it’s a dry heat). These are taught in a vinyasa flow style with focus on a balanced series of postures. You work up a sweat and our heated room helps limber up.

  • Hot Vinyasa Saturday / Sunday at 9AM, Thursday at 5:30PM

We love kids at bliss! They will need their own pass and of course get student rates. Be sure to read the class description as some age groups need an parent/guardian present.

Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.

We know you will find at least 3 you LOVE!

Restorative Extra Sat, 09 Feb 2019 13:46:31 +0000 Julie was reflecting how much a restorative yoga practice has helped her take life a little slower. She loves how the practice offers a reset from the fast-paced world where we feel really conflicted about taking time OFF!

But let’s face it, the weekends are just as busy as the work week. For many of us, there really is no end in sight to the rushing to work, to events, to activities, to commitments. It just how things are right now.

And yet equally important is the fact that we want peace of mind and peace in body. We want to tame that stress response. We KNOW how damaging the pace of our life and the stress it induces is to our health. We really do want to implement a positive approach to stress management.

Julie is so happy to bring back the early in the week, evening restorative class. This class is called Restorative Extra because it is EXTRA! No, not extra in price, but just a little longer and includes a bit more.

In this 75 minute class you will enjoy a restorative practice focused on being fully supported in asanas for longer periods of time. Each pose will help to calm the central nervous system, and find release in those areas of our body where we tend to hold tension: shoulders, hips, and lower back. The last 15 minutes of each class will offer something just a little extra such as drumming, yoga nidra, meditation or mantra. -Julie

Building restorative into the work week will let your body re-frame the stress response! You will be able to really put energy into your finding peace mantra, carve just a little time out to stop the hurry and connect with your stillness.

Letting go will feel so good! Restorative Extra – Tuesdays at 7PM – Starts March 12. Use your yoga pass

This class starts Tuesday January 8th.
