The BlissMama Yoga Program at BlissBlissBliss offers yoga classes and workshops specifically tailored for expectant mothers, new mothers and their newborns, and birthing partners. Created by yoga instructor, Heidi Sherwin, the program is inspired by her dedication to teaching women-centered yoga, her passionate interest in mother and baby wellness, and the belief that every women deserves communal support during the pre and postnatal period.

The intention of the classes and workshops is to illuminate the wisdom, strength and courage inherent in every woman, in order to support a healthy pregnancy and birth, ease the transition into motherhood, and provide more moments of bliss. Practicing yoga during the pre and postnatal period yields many physical and emotional benefits, such as alleviating stress and fatigue, improved posture, strengthening the pelvic floor muscles, balancing moods, and connecting deeply with the baby before and after the birth. The classes also provide a safe and positive space for open conversation among women on the same path. Whether one is a mama-to-be or a veteran mama, no woman should feel alone on her journey and every mama should feel like a BlissMama!

BlissMama Prenatal Yoga: a practice for mothers-to-be that includes breathing, meditation, movement, and deep relaxation to support the pregnant body and mind during this magical journey. BlissMamas will connect with their babies, while developing graceful strength, abiding courage and a calm focus to prepare for labor, childbirth, and motherhood. It is recommended that BlissMamas be 12 weeks pregnant to begin classes and no prior yoga experience is necessary.

BlissMama & Baby Yoga: a fun and gentle approach to re-strengthening the body after pregnancy and labor, increasing energy levels and providing self-care while socializing with other new BlissMamas and their babies. The poses target core and pelvic muscles, tone arms and legs, and release tension in shoulders and neck. Breathing and relaxation exercises are also introduced to alleviate stress. The class is taught in a supportive, peaceful environment for bonding with your baby. Baby yoga and massage are also explored in each class. Mothers with babies that are 6 weeks old to active crawlers are welcome and no prior yoga experience is necessary.

BlissMama Yoga & Birthing Workshop for Couples: a workshop developed to bring ease and joy to your birth experience and alleviate common fears associated with labor and birth. The informative 2.5-hour session is intended for expectant mothers in their 2nd or 3rd trimesters and their birthing partners. Yoga-centered techniques that can promote a positive birthing experience will be discussed and explored. This workshop will encourage couples to feel safe, secure, empowered and confident through the entire birthing journey. Time will also be available for questions, sharing, and interaction with other couples. Birthing partner includes spouse, boyfriend, family member, or friend. No yoga experience is necessary. Cost: $50/couple. Pre-registration required.

BlissMama Labor at Home: a special service offered privately in your home while in the early stages of labor. Heidi will visit you at home and provide up to 3 hours of caring laboring support with yoga-centered techniques. Breathing practices, vocalizations, guided relaxations, and gentle postures will be shared to help you stay strong, focused, and calm while you naturally progress. You are better able to relax and cope with the intensity of the experience while laboring in your comforting environment, which may lessen the likelihood of medical intervention and time spent at the hospital. This service is perfect for laboring mothers who are temporarily alone at home, or to provide collective support to the mother and birth partner/s prior to heading to the hospital. This service does not replace any necessary medical treatment by midwives or doctors. If interested in this incredibly helpful service, please contact Heidi in the last couple weeks of your pregnancy in order to discuss on-call plans. Private sessions are available between 6am – 10pm. Cost: $55/hour Bliss Members; $70/hour Guests.

About the Instructor: Heidi Sherwin is a Registered Yoga Teacher with specialized training in Pre/Postnatal Yoga and Yoga for Labor. She has been practicing yoga since 1994 and started teaching yoga in 2008. Her dedicated and joyful approach to teaching yoga ensures a safe, positive atmosphere for mothers-to-be, new mothers and their newborns, and birthing partners. She is the lucky mama to three amazing daughters, each carrying a unique and powerful birth experience, including a c-section and two successful VBACs. Through her sharing and teaching, Heidi aims to empower and inspire childbearing women, so their motherhood journey may be healthy, exciting and blissful.
